One of the main threats in today’s society is the loss of creativity in our youth. This fear was first created by the movement of states and local governments to remove many of the more artistic programs from their curriculum. However, the cause runs far deeper and is based off of the entire structure of our society today.
The first major concern of youth and creativity came when local and state governments pushed to remove artistic applications from schools. Art and music either removed entirely or substantially reduce the extent in schools, in an effort to save money by removing what many considered optional programs. However, removing these programs, children lost one of the few times during the school day where they were allowed to think freely and to express themselves in their own unique behavior.
However, since this loss of creativity runs deeper in children’s activities after school. Where children used to play there regularly and use your imagination to improve their games, today’s children are now video games, cell phones and laptops to keep them occupied. As a result, children now spend more time in a controlled environment where their actions are predetermined and their thoughts limited. By entertaining these practices, children are thinking less about themselves and lose a lot of creative thoughts.
Overall, we can not be due to technology, but we can try and promote wider array of activities for our children. Try and get the children involved in more activities that require free thought as well as having them play their games and use their computers. In the end, we will have more creative society that is better at expressing themselves freely.
